Movie Critic (Clash of the Titans 2010)

I was so excited yesterday, the 11th of April this year when i watched Clash of the Titans the remake. So i asked Ising to go with me, and i paid for the movie ticket since it was only Php100.00 and i still can afford that one. We bought the ticket at around 5.55 and the movie started at 4.50, since we were late, i told him that we will wander around and wait for an hour. So we had snacks in the food court and then we roam around SM city-mall.

At 6.30, i told him that we should go inside the cinema house, and so we went inside and i felt something bad in my stomach that i was about to defecate, i asked him to hold my phone and reserved a sit for me and i went to Watson and bought this wet wipes, but then i did not felt any defecating. So i went up the balcony of the cinema house and i asked him if the advertisement started when i left, and he said yes.

At the beginning of the Clash of the Titans was very intriguing, the graphics itself was really amusing, from the constellation of the stars of great gods and goddesses, and how Zeus defeated his own parents who were the Titans and how the lightning god cheated other gods. There it was, there was this golden coffin with certain designs float from the deep see to the surface of the ocean and the fisherman got it, that was the beginning of Perseus life. In the old movies, the story started chronologically, with out any flash back from the past to avoid confusion, but in the new movie it started from the sea where a woman and a living child was found and named Perseus. I was intrigued by this another character, which i thought she was goddess Athena, but i was wrong, she was not Athena Pallas, she was Io, the guardian of Perseus, which was cursed by Zeus to become an ageless person for not accepting a place in Olympus. Actually, she should not be in the story, since she has no connection with the story of Perseus life and the guardian of Persus was huntsman. The foster parents and sister of Perseus died in the battle between Hades and the armies that defied Zeus, which supposedly has nothing to do with Hades. The story should be only to Zeus,Thetis,Hera, Athena, Andromeda, Medusa, Pegasus , the three sisters (witches) and the Kraken.

In the new movie, Perseus and Andromeda was not married, and that Andromeda was less a character than goddess Io. It seems to be that, Io and Perseus were the two person that were meant to get married at the end of the story. Supposedly, Andromeda and Perseus got married and to save her from cetus, Perseus need to find a way to stopped the Cetus from getting his wife. However, in the 2010 version, it was not the story, although, Andromeda was to be offered to the crackens before the eclipse ended, at this time, Andromeda has no feelings with Perseus at all and vice-versa. Perseus traveled because he wanted to revenge the death of his foster parents against Hades, and that's all his main goal in the journey. He can kill Hades by killing his son first who was a Kraken and then, Hades will be vulnerable.

In the journey, they encountered with this king, supposedly to be his grandfather which was deformed when the lightning struck him before he declared war against Zeus for having a baby from god. But in the old movie again, he was not struck by the lightning, and that the person that intervene in the journey of Perseus was Calibus, the son of goddess Thetis which was cursed bu Zeus. And here, the blood of the deformed king, turned into big scorpions which supposedly only the blood from Medusa's head will make the scorpion bigger.

Another thing was that, Charon, was made in an exaggerated way, because he was all bones with out any cloak, while in the mythology book and the 1981 movie, he was described according to the book, that his body was covered with a black cloak not nakedly exposed its bony body. But i like the Medusa in the new film, was really gorgeous and not so fake, however the sword that was used to kill Medusa's head was not the sword that was given by Zeus and the shield as well. In the original story which was almost the same with the 1981 film of the Clash of the Titans, Zeus ordered the goddesses to make a shield that would protect his, a helmet that would make him invisible, which was not portrayed in the new movie, and a sword that can not be broken. the Dioskilos which was the three headed guardian dog in the gate of Medusa was not in the new movie. And to my dismay as well, Bobo was not totally exposed in the story. Bobo which was the golden owl made for in the protection of Perseus after the helmet was lost in the swamp of Calibus, was supposedly to guide Perseus everywhere he go, it was not goddess Io that guard him, even though Bobo was in the new film, i think it was only shown for less than 2 minutes.

What else i find it difficult to understand, i could not remember, i just enjoyed the graphics, but the story itself was way far from the book itself and from the original movie in 1981. I even asked Ising, if he was able to understand the movie, and he honestly told me no. I told him that, you should have read the book and watched the old movie first, since the old movie was more arranged although the graphics were so fake, but the story was really based on the greek Perseus story.

The gods and goddesses were so hard to identify, you would not identify in the circle of the gods and goddesses if where was Athena, Hera, Thetis, and other gods, although Poseidon was introduced. Too much focused on Hades, Zeus, and Ion, forgetting that it should be the story of Andromeda and Perseus. One more thing, Pegasus, to my disappointment, i never expected that Pegasus will be a black winged horse in the new movie, the director should have focused on the original mythology that it was described as a winged horse which was white and sometimes mistaken as a unicorn horse.

So i could say that the new film is not having my Kodus, it would be a great disappointment for me instead of feeding my great excitement. But it was good, all the characters look likes gods and goddesses but the story was way too far from the original movie and the book itself.

Here are the improvements of the graphics of 1981 and 2010 clash of the titans:

Kraken

Zeus

Medusa

Perseus

Andromeda

Guardian of Perseus

Sygian witches

Circle of gods and goddesses

Cassiopeia (mother of Andromeda)
