I am a registered nurse, and i am working in the outpatient Oncology Department of a 400 bed capacity bed in Bacolod City. I never realized how each nurses differ from each other until i assisted my uncle to be admitted in the hospital where i render my service; where some are doing their job in accordance with the code of ethics and others are not doing their job properly as what they should be, according to what we ought. I could say, i am a type of a nurse who would do anything, in order to serve the patient correctly and for their betterment, and i would always do my job in accordance to what is I supposed to do. However, i felt sad and anger when i see a lot of nurses, who are "dumb" as i call them, irresponsible and unprofessional, mostly they are new nurses and thinking they are superior from those patient they were handling, without knowing that they were here to serve those who are in need, in terms of health problems.
We arrived in the Emergency room this morning it was ten past 30, and everything seems to be alright, the doctors in charge was nice and he was able to perform his duty, the ER nurse that was assigned to us was also quiet satisfactory when it comes to his performance, however, CBC to know if the person has a Parkinson's disease? Misleading information. My classmate during my nursing years was there, but it was so sad, that you;'re own classmate could not even help you; how come, i could help if i try, giving needles, syringes.... It was two o'clock in the afternoon, and it was time for their endorsement, and what, nothing happened, my uncle's case was endorsed to this another VOLUNTEER ER nurse, and there was a time that my auntie asked him if when will be trans-out to ortho ward, and he went to us, with his big voice, telling us, that, "we are still endorsing and the nurses in ortho station was endorsing as well, and it would be shameful for my fellow to endorse the patient in the middle of their endorsement". I do understand it, but of course with his tone of voice, what does he implied? And of course, in the world of nursing, WE DO NOT USE FELLOW, it is COLLEAGUES, and please DO NOT refer the ORDERLY as HELPER, this is not your house.Then, i think he was pissed off because we were keep on asking when will my uncle be transferred, and then he call out the family name of my uncle out loud, and i approached him and he asked me, where is the request for X-ray, fuck him (sorry for this), i told him, i do not have it, and he looked at the paper, "OH, it was already done (FUCK YOU, in my mind), remember that it was endorsed to you and you should know it. And then, he called me up again, you need to sign this, i asked him, who should sign, is it me or my uncle's son, and then he told me "OH, it was already signed", so i smiled at him, since i am always smiling and hell i care, with the problems. When i was walking away from the nurses station, he was whispering something, and remember it was not whispering, since it was so loud, "What does he keep on smiling at (insult)", and i turned my head back and smiled again. My ego was hit by i heard, so i went outside and i was looking for my headnurse, to report that guy, his name is FRANCIS, he thought he is handsome, fuck, you are not, and you think you are smart, hell no, you think you are industrious, very unsatisfactory. You are not busy you know, you have never been busy with your patient, you were so BUSY EATING two STICKS of BANANAQUE, and please guys, you are nurses, kindly help the doctors, assist them, do not depend on STUDENT NURSES, what are you all, lame persons? So, i asked my friend Israel and Sharon, who are my colleagues ( this is the way to call nurses in the same institution, you are working in), and i was winging about that guy, and remember, we were there at 10.39 and we were endorsed in the ward at around 4.00, what the, is this how awful public nurses are, i am a public health nurse, but i am not that lame, lazy and i balance my time well for documenting and endorsing to taking care of my patient.
So i went home together with Israel and Sharon S and prepared the rice for me to bring back at the hospital, then i received a text from my auntie, that they were asked by the ortho ward nurse to attached the weights for traction, and i texted back my auntie, "tell the nurse on duty that you do not know how to attached it", my God, he is the nurse, he should have known it. When we went back in the hospital, i brought everything that was needed in the hospital and my uncle was clamoring for pain on his left leg, since he has a complete oblique fracture on the base of femoral neck with superolateral dislocation. So, we gave him tramadol, this is a medicine to ease the pain, we informed the nurse assigned in the area, and guess what, he was mad, it was accepted, and he asked us, "who is the doctor, the nurse, without knowing that the three of us, were nurses, and Israel pointed me that i am a nurse, he asked, where, i smiled and tell him, here, and he was still asking what area and where, fuck sake, he did not knew that there is an oncology area in the hospital, are you joking me? (I think, he was volunteer). So,we told him that we gave the tramadol since my uncle was in pain and we saw the order in ER that it was every 6 hours, and there was no single medicines that was given on my uncle as an initial dose, which should have been done in upon receiving the patient, and guess what he answered to us when we asked him the timing of medicines and what are the medicines? He never had a chance to look at the chart of my uncle ( GEE, ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?), it was endorse to you before 5 in the afternoon and you never had a chance to look at it, and what are the medicines needed, because you are busy, and try to tell us that to understand you,since we knew how busy you are in the ward, then resign stop working, for i am not like you. And please try to prioritize the patient, since you are in the ortho ward, there was only ONE patient who is in pain,then asked him, know the order of the physicians, do not be a pea brain. I guess his name is MICHAEL V. (i will not expose your family name, since we can assess you as having poor nursing care). And please i was an Intensive Care Unit nurse, and i know how to take care of the patient and i know how to give importance to the life of my patient, please, you are not in the hospital to gain experience alone, you are there to learn how to take care of the patient, aside from gaining experience. You are all can be found in one public hospital in Bacolod City, you are such a disgrace to the quality of care of the hospital, since you are not providing care, and stop giving this reasons that you are busy, since when you were a student, you were all already told that being a nurse should be a multitasking person and learn how to prioritize your patient.
Sorry to say this, you are a big disgrace in providing safety and giving good care to the patient, think and DO NOT BE LAZY, remember that, not all the people you are having conversation with are illiterate, there are simple nurses who are smarter than you are and have more experience than you ARE, but WE ARE HUMBLE enough not to take over your responsibility, unless, WE find YOU, IRRESPONSIBLE.
